بيان حول قرارنا بمقاطعة مهرجان بوب كولتور 2017
المشاركة اعتراف ..ونحن لن نعترف
مجدداً نجد أنفسنا في موقف لا يمككنا فيه إلى المقاطعة هذا ما يحتمه التزامنا السياسي الذي جعل من مزاج ما هي عليه، ولهذا نعلن وبكل فخر مقاطعتنا للمشاركة في مهرجان بوب كولتور.
منذ مدة تمت دعوة أبو حجر من فرقة مزاج مع جيميك جيموفيت لتقديم حفل في مهرجان بوب كولتور في برلين أحد أهم المهرجانات الموسيقية في المدينة، وبناء على هذه الدعوة قام الموسيقيان ولفترة طويلة بالتحضير لمشروع جديد كان من المقرر إطلاقه خلال المهرجان بعنوان “أوسلندر بيهوردي- مكتب الأجانب” وكان هدف المشروع الأساسي السخرية عبر الموسيقى والكلام من العقلية التي تحكم مكتب الأجانب التابع للحكومة الألمانية في تعاملهم مع كل من يحتاج إلى أسباب ليثبت رغبته في الإقامة في ألمانيا.بالإضافة إلى النقد الساخر من عقلية التسامح مع الاختلاف و العقل الأوروبي الاستعلائي والاستعماري.
لأشهر طويلة عمل االموسيقيان معا و تم توقيف أي فعالية أخرى بهدف استثمار كل الوقت اللازم لإنجاح هذا المشروع ولتقديم عرض يناسب أهمية المحتوى والذي يرى كلا الموسيقيان أنفسهما معنيان به شخصياً.
وكما أننا في فرقة مزاج قد تعرضنا سابقاً لتجربة وجدنا أنفسنا فيها نقاطع مهرجاناً أخر قبل ساعات قليلة من عرضنا بسبب وجود محاولات لتلميع صورة دولة إسرائيل متجاهلاً سلوكها الاستيطاني، العنصري والإجرامي، فقد تأكدنا قبل الموافقة على المشاركة في مهرجان بوب كولتور من معرفة جميع التفاصيل عبر النسخ السابقة من المهرجان ولم يكن هناك أي إشكاليات أو نقاط تتعارض مع إدراكنا و مواقفنا السياسية والاجتماعية فوافقنا على المشاركة، كل شيء كان جاهز للمشاركة في المهرجان حتى وجدنا على موقع النسخة الجديدة من المهرجان أن سفارة دولة إسرائيل في برلين هي أحد الشركاء الداعمين للمهرجان.
لم نفكر لدقيقة بأن مهرجاناً يقبل بشراكة سفارة تمثل بلداً وحكومة كحكومة الليكود برئاسة نتنياهو ليس مكاناً يتسع لنا، فالقبول بوجود سفارة حكومة استيطانية في كشريك للمهرجان يعتبر بمثابة تلميع صورة لتلك الحكومة هذا يلغي أي دور أخر للمهرجان في جمع الثقافات المختلفة على خشبة مسرح واحدة، لسنا نتحدث هنا عن ثقافة و ثقافة بديلة القضية قضية موقف سياسي من حكومة استيطانية ولو قبلنا بأن الخلاف معها هو مجرد خلاف ثقافات لكان الحري بنا أن نقبل بأن الخلاف مع النازيين و العنصريين والمصابيين برهاب المثلية هو خلاف ثقافات لا أكثر.
و بناء على هذا و لكي نصبح متسقين مع وعينا السياسي الرافض دائماً لكل ما هو استعماري، توسعي، عنصري، قمعي وقائم على الاضطهاد والتمييز فنحن وبكل فخر نعلن انسحابنا من المشاركة و نعتبر أن المشاركة بالنسبة لنا هي بمثابة الموافقة على كل ما تمثله سفارة دولة وحكومة اسرائيل من سلوكيات عنصرية و تمييزية.
ونحن إذ نوجه دعوتنا إلى كل الفنانين المشاركين في المهرجان إلى اتخاذ موقف مشابه فإننا ننطلق من أن دور الفن ينحو إلى أبعد من كونه مجرد أداة للترفيه عن الناس أو مجرد عرض على خشبة مسرح، الفن إن لم يكن في مواجهة دائمة مع كل ما هو تمييزي و عنصري فإنه يتحول إلى هرج فارغ يقل من قيمته ومن قيمة الفنان.
نود أن نقدم أعتذارنا إلى كل من كان ينتظر العرض، و نحن نؤمن بأن من كان يرغب في سماع ما كان من المفترض تقديمه لن يعوزه الوعي اللازم لتفهم موقفنا.

Participation is acceptance… We will never accept.
Again we find ourselves in a position where we are left with no other option than to boycott; an action that stems from our political commitment which made Mazzaj what it is. Therefore we proudly declare our boycott of Popkultur festival.
A couple of month ago, Abu Hajar from Mazzaj was invited together with Jemik Jemowit to perform at Popkultur-Berlin, one of the most important music festivals in the town. The two musicians worked for a long time together in order to prepare a new music project that includes their music in addition to their critiques towards the “welcoming culture, the whiteness of Germany, the fortress Europe”. They decided to call their project “ausländerbehörde- foreigners/aliens bureau”, as this institution represents the peak of oppression of people who are obliged to provide “reasons” for why they want to stay in Germany. The two musicians decided to use this institution’s name as it exposes the shallowness of the German government’s attempt to portrait itself as welcoming, tolerant and open.
This project is the musician’s declaration of their break with the European values of modernity and cosmopolitanism.
Despite our efforts to make sure that the events have no partnership with or endorsement of institutions, states or organizations that act against our political or social convictions, Mazzaj has previously been exposed to a situation in which we had to boycott – only hours before its beginning it became clear that another festival was trying to whitewash the colonial, racist and discriminatory behavior of the Israeli state. Since we found no indication of a problematic position of Popkultur in the previous years’ editions, we accepted to participate; everything was ready for our gig, until some days ago when we discovered that the embassy of the Israeli state is a partner in this year’s edition of the festival.
It did not take us a minute to know what we had to do; we will not participate in a festival that accepts the partnership with an embassy representing a state and a government –Led by right wing party Likud and Netanyahu – which openly declared on many different occasions anti-Arab, anti-Muslim and anti-Black attitudes. Given this and its perpetration of all previous government’s colonial behavior, we understand the partnership with an embassy as an attempt to whitewash the image of its government and an endorsement of its behavior.
The festival’s declared aim to bring artists from different backgrounds together on one stage cannot be achieved under such conditions.
Our stand is not against a culture, but resistance against a discriminatory, colonial government. It is not merely an opinion that we disagree with, but a whole set of oppressive structures, manifesting themselves in the policies of the Israeli state.
It is not only a matter of differing opinions, as it is demonstrated in what we assume is our common understanding: Neo-Nazi, racist, anti-Semitic or homophobic bands should have no platform to promote their discriminatory attitudes and hate speech. We would not consider the presence of such a band as an opportunity for a constructive exchange. Our refusal to share the platform with the representatives of an oppressive government is in line with the above understanding.
Considering this and to be consistent with our political commitment against any form of oppression, colonialism or discrimination we proudly declare our withdrawal from the festival as long as it endorses the discriminatory policies of the Israeli state by collaborating with and displaying its logo. Hence we consider the participation in it as an acceptance to all what this embassy represents.
We call for all the participating artists to take a similar position to prove that art is still a message that goes beyond a single act on a stage, that art is a position against all what is regressive and discriminatory in this world.
We would like to apologise to all our people who were looking forward to listen to what we were going to present and we keep the hope that ausländerbehörde will see the light on a different platform.
